Basic knowledge test – cantonal civics test for naturalisation in the Canton of Zurich
The basic knowledge test (civics test) contains various exercises relating to geography, history, language, politics, and law. It also includes a written test of the candidate’s knowledge of religion and public holidays, of work and education in Switzerland, and of the Canton of Zurich.
The test is designed for anyone who wants to become naturalised in the Canton of Zurich who has not spent five years undertaking compulsory schooling in Switzerland and/or who has not completed an apprenticeship.
The test
The written test normally lasts 60 minutes; there is no oral exam.
The examination takes place under supervision on a computer on our premises.
The deadline for registration is 7 days before the test date.

Participants who cancel at short notice will not be charged a fee if they can present a medical certificate.
Candidates receive their test results immediately.
